Kentucky Derby 2018 Photos Oaks Arrival Day

I'm Noah and that's me on the left with lipstick on my cheek. Kentucky Derby 2018 (aka Kentucky Derby 144) was my tenth time going to the Derby. I had an amazing time with amazing friends. It stormed pretty much the entire day, but we wouldn't have traded it for anything - although next year we are really thinking about getting covered seats. Here are some fantastic photos to show what a great time we had. I'll have more pages with more content coming soon. Follow this blog so you won't miss out on updates on past Derby's or for Kentucky Derby 145.

The Perdido Key Derby Krewe flew out of Destin (VPS) on Friday morning. That meant an early borrowed SUV ride (because none of us have a vehicle big enough for five people plus luggage plus hats) from Perdido Key to Destin (Thanks Ken!). Even though we weren't going to any races this day, we still showed up at the airport dressed. For good reason, too! Read the feedback to Allegiant Airlines below.

We were on an almost empty plane out of Destin and we were the stars of the entire flight. Everyone knew who we were and where we were going. It is pretty amazing that we made our flight. We met a first-time Derby buddy, Kurt, on the flight; and to top off the flight, we had golf cart service pick us up at the gate and drive us all the way, almost, to baggage claim. Also, when you arrive at the Louisville Airport, be sure to try one of the Bourbon Ball candies offered by the ladies along the concourse. Delicious treat. We LOVE Kentucky hospitality!

Thank you, Allegiant!

Once we made it to Louisville, we, of course, had bourbon-filled drinks while we waited on Cayla. She landed only a little bit after we did and then helped us with the drinks. This is our Voldenous shot.

This is Kelly's first horse pic. Notice the riding crop she brought and it made it through TSA.

That first night was, to put it politely, a mess. We did not make it to the Oaks as our flights landed mid-afternoon. No disappointment as we realized this when we booked the flights and intended this first day to be travel and party. Travis and Stephanie met us for dinner and drinks. Kelly got arrested (totally staged for fun). Some guy got ran over by a car. Tracy helped him and he did not die as Tracy saw him at the Derby the next day.

For Arlene:

And some of us ended the night at White Castle after alcohol, Walgreens and defective selfie sticks split the group up for the night.

The next day was DERBY!
